Fourballer Privacy Policy
Effective date: 3 October 2026
Fourballer is an app for golf groups: organising rounds, keeping score, and showing each player's results for the games their group plays. It's run by Bruce Watermeyer and Patrick Kerr (together "we", "us"). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
Fourballer only keeps records: it never holds, sends or receives money.
1. What we collect
You give us:
- Your sign-in details: your email address and password or, where we offer them, your Apple or Google account (see below).
- Your name and, if you add one, a profile photo.
- Your mobile number. It's how friends find you and how we match you to an invitation.
- Your golf details: handicap index, home course, preferred tees and, if you choose to link it, your GHIN number or other handicap-service ID.
- What you do in the app: rounds you organise or answer, scores you enter, choices in games (for example a Wolf pick), the amounts your group agreed for each game, when a round is marked settled, messages and photos you share in chats, and feedback you send us.
If you sign in with Apple or Google (where we offer it), they give us a unique account identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name, email address (or Apple's private relay address) and profile photo.
If you choose to give the app access on your phone:
- Contacts, to help you find and invite friends who use Fourballer.
- Location, for example to find nearby courses, show distances or record where a round was played.
- Photos and camera, for a profile photo or to share pictures in chats.
- Notifications: a device token so we can send you alerts.
You can turn any of these off in your phone's settings.
Other people may give us information about you. An organiser can add you to a group or a round, or add you as a guest with your name, handicap and mobile number. If you later sign up with the same number, that information becomes part of your account.
Golf associations, handicap services and clubs may give us information about you if you link an account with them or they connect with Fourballer, such as your handicap index, membership details and posted scores.
Collected automatically:
- Crash reports: when the app crashes, a technical record of what went wrong and which version of the app it was. Crash reports don't include your name, email, phone number, scores, amounts or account ID.
- Service logs kept by our hosting provider, which may include IP addresses and the requests the app makes.
- Usage and device information: how you use the app's features (for example which screens you open and the actions you take, and when), app version, device model, operating system, language, time zone, and an identifier for your installation of the app. Today the app collects only crash reports; it may collect more of this as features are added.
If you turn on Face ID, iOS handles it on your phone; we never receive biometric data.
TestFlight beta: if you send feedback through TestFlight, Apple passes us your screenshot, comments, device and app details, and the email address you were invited with.
2. How we use it
- To provide and run Fourballer: sign-in, groups, invitations, rounds, scoring, results and settlement records.
- To show other players what they need (see section 3).
- To connect with golf associations, handicap services and clubs, for example to verify handicaps, import data or post scores.
- To maintain, secure, improve and develop Fourballer and new products, features and services.
- To analyse how the app is used, and to produce statistics, research and insights.
- To communicate with you, including service messages and, where the law allows, news and offers about Fourballer and our partners.
- To create de-identified or aggregated information that doesn't identify you. We may use and share that for any purpose.
- To comply with the law, enforce our terms, and protect people's safety and our rights.
3. How we share it
- Other players. People in your groups and rounds see your name, handicap, the rounds you're part of, your scores, and each game's results, including who owes whom within that group.
- Service providers that run parts of Fourballer for us, currently:
- Supabase: database, sign-in and hosting. Your information is stored in the United States (Supabase's us-east-1 region);
- Sentry: crash reports, which carry no personal information (see section 1);
- Apple: TestFlight and the App Store (and Sign in with Apple, if you use it).
- Golf associations, handicap services and clubs (for example the USGA's GHIN system or your club), to provide connected features such as handicap verification and score posting.
- Business partners, such as golf courses, clubs, sponsors and other golf-related businesses, where we work with them to offer features, services or promotions.
- Analytics, advertising and measurement partners, if we use them to understand how the app is used, to promote Fourballer, or to show offers in the app.
- With your direction or consent, for example when you ask us to share something.
- In a business transfer, such as a merger, sale, financing or reorganisation, your information may pass to the new owner or their advisers.
- For legal reasons: to comply with the law or legal process, enforce our terms, or protect people's safety and our rights.
We may also share de-identified or aggregated information with anyone.
4. How long we keep it
- While your account is open, we keep your profile and your round history.
- When you delete your account, we delete or de-identify your profile, mobile number, email and sign-in details within 30 days. Rounds you played with other people stay part of their history, and your name on them is replaced with "Former player".
- Money records involving other players stay, with your name shown as "Former player". Removing them would destroy the other players' record of the same round.
- Messages and feedback you wrote (in chats, comments, reports and feedback to us) are removed and replaced with "Message removed".
- We keep a record that you accepted these terms and when, linked only to "Former player", as proof that consent was given.
- Backups are overwritten within 30 days.
- Crash reports are deleted within 30 days.
- We may keep information longer where we need it for legal, security, fraud-prevention or accounting reasons, and we may keep de-identified or aggregated information indefinitely.
- During the beta we may reset data at any time.
5. Your choices
- See or correct your details in the app, or by asking us.
- Delete your account in the app (Profile → Delete account), or by emailing us. Deletion works as described in section 4.
- Marketing messages: you can opt out at any time using the link or instructions in the message.
- Phone permissions: you can turn off access to contacts, location, photos and notifications at any time in your phone's settings. Some features may not work without them.
- Your state's privacy rights. Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal information under your state's law. To use them, email us; we'll verify your request and respond as that law requires.
6. Do Not Track
Your device or browser may send a "Do Not Track" signal. There's no agreed standard for these signals, so Fourballer doesn't currently respond to them.
7. Security
We use reasonable measures to protect your information. It's encrypted in transit, and our database provider encrypts it at rest. Access is limited by rules in the database itself: other users can never read your mobile number or email address, and neither can the app on anyone else's phone. No system is completely secure. Please tell us straight away if you think your account has been misused.
8. Children
Fourballer is for adults. It's rated 18+ on the App Store, it's not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we'll delete it.
9. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy. We'll post the new version with a new effective date and, for material changes, tell you in the app or by another reasonable method before they take effect.
